From yesterday’s commute:
Across from me
on the train,
a young man too washed out for his years.
Buttoned in and buttoned up
black shoes, black laces pulled tight.
When I look up he is staring at me
with half-lidded eyes.
His ears plugged in.
So worn out. He does not know to look away.
